You Can Date This Card By One Name On It

Nine categories, six tools in each, fifty-four logos on one card. It is the biggest list we have looked at and it comes with the right warning along the bottom: features and pricing change often. Check each tool before you rely on it.

That footer is doing more work than whoever wrote it may have realised, because the card proves its own point. Look at the sixth row, last tile: Google Bard.

That product stopped being called Bard in early 2024. It has been Gemini for years. One row down, the image generator block ends with DALL·E 2 — a version number that was superseded before Bard was renamed.

Neither is a scandal, and neither tool stopped working. What they are is a timestamp. A list cannot be newer than the oldest name on it, and on this card that is a name from before February 2024. Everything else on the grid was assembled at roughly the same moment.

Which gives you a genuinely useful thirty-second habit for any tool list you ever save: date it before you act on it.

Three ways to date a list

1 · A RENAMED PRODUCT 2 · A VERSION NUMBER 3 · A MISSING CATEGORY
Scan for a name you know has changed Scan for a number after a product name Ask what everybody talks about now that is absent
“Google Bard” — renamed in early 2024 “DALL·E 2” — superseded before that No agents row. No coding-agent row
The list is at least that old Narrows it further Confirms the era rather than the month
Most reliable — renames are dated events Good, but versions linger in people’s writing Softest signal, and the easiest to be wrong about
Three dating markers, strongest first. The two examples are from this card; the method is this blog’s addition.

All nine categories, as the card lists them

Every name below is the card’s own, in its own order.

Category The six tools What the row is for
Writing Tools Notion AI · Monica · Text FX · QuillBot · Jenni AI · ChatGPT Draft and rewrite text
SEO Tools LongShot · Semrush · Alli AI · Seona AI · Blogseo · vidIQ Get found — but one of these is for YouTube, not the web
Coding Tools Codeium · Replit · MarsAI · Safurai · GitFluence · Phind Write and run code
Startup Tools Durable · Namelix · Bizway · Tekmatix · RhetorAI · CreativAI Start a business — the loosest category on the card
Logo Generator Looka · Namecheap · Logoai · MakeLogo · Designs · Brandmark Make a picture (a logo)
Productivity Tools Bright Eye · Audioread · GitMind · Magical · Taskade · Google Bard Organise work — and the row that dates the card
Image Generator Stable Diffusion · SeaArt · Lucidpic · Pebblely · Synthesys · DALL·E 2 Make a picture
Art Tools Midjourney · Lexica · Ideogram · Firefly · Playground · Leap Make a picture
Video Generator HeyGen · Shuffll · Fliki · Topview AI · Runway · Synthesia Produce video
All nine rows exactly as printed, with the card’s own footer: features and pricing change often, check each tool before you rely on it. The last column is this blog’s addition.

Eighteen of the fifty-four make pictures

The second thing worth noticing is that nine categories is not nine jobs.

Row five generates logos. Row seven generates images. Row eight generates art. Those are three category headings for one activity — describing something and getting a picture back. Eighteen tiles, one job, and the distinction between them is mostly a matter of which style each one is tuned for and whether it puts your brand name in the middle.

That is not a flaw in the card so much as a flaw in how categories get written. “Image generator” and “art tools” sound like different departments and behave like the same button. The reliable way to catch this on any list is to rewrite each heading as a sentence with an object in it — three headings that collapse into “produce a picture from a description” were never three decisions. We set that method out in It Promises No Overlap. There Are Three Overlaps In It.

Do that across the whole card and fifty-four tools resolve to roughly six real jobs.

The actual job Which categories cover it Tiles spent on it How many you need
Draft and rewrite text Writing 6 One
Produce a picture Logo · Image · Art 18 One, maybe two if you need text inside images
Produce video Video generator 6 One
Write and run code Coding 6 One
Get found SEO 6 One for the web; a separate one if you work on YouTube
Organise the work Productivity 6 One
Start a business Startup 6 Not a job. A life stage, holding six unrelated tools
Nine category headings reduced to six jobs plus one row that is not a job at all. This whole table is this blog’s addition.

Four honest caveats

A dated name does not mean a dead tool. Every one of these fifty-four may still work perfectly. The renamed product is the same product and is, if anything, considerably better than it was when it had the old name. Dating a list tells you how much checking it needs, not that it is wrong.

Two tiles are not quite what their row says. The SEO row ends with a tool that does YouTube SEO rather than web SEO — a genuinely useful thing, and a different job from the five beside it. And the logo row includes a company best known as a domain registrar, which does offer a logo maker but is not a logo company. If you are shopping that row, read past the heading.

“10X your productivity” is a claim, not a measurement. The card’s title promises a multiplier that nothing on the card measures. The honest version is that the right single tool removes a specific repeated task — and the only way to know whether it did is to time the whole workflow, including the reviewing, which almost nobody does.

A big list ages faster than a small one. Fifty-four names is fifty-four chances for something to be renamed, merged, repriced or shut. That is the arithmetic behind the card’s own footer, and it is why we re-checked a similar chart tool by tool and found the failure rate was not small: The Paid Tools Are Fine. It Is the Free Column That Rots.

Questions people ask

So should I ignore old lists? No. Treat the date as a confidence level. A year-old list is still a fine way to discover a category; it is a poor way to choose a specific product without checking.

How do I check one tool quickly? Open its site and look for two things: the current name, and the date of the most recent post or changelog entry. Thirty seconds, and it catches most of what goes wrong.

Why do these lists never carry a date? Because a date limits how long the post can circulate. The ones that do print a check date — and several BANI cards do — are more useful and less shareable, which is the trade. We wrote about what happens when that line gets trimmed in Same Fourteen Swaps, With One Sentence Removed.

What should I actually take from a fifty-four tool card? One row. The one matching the job that eats your week — and for anyone working on YouTube, the SEO row is worth reading twice, because the near-miss keywords already in your own data are the cheapest win available: Position 11 Is Where Your Next Win Is.

Date it, then use it

Fifty-four tools, nine headings, one footer that turns out to describe the card itself. A name from early 2024 sits in row six and a superseded version number sits in row seven, and between them they tell you exactly how much of this to trust without checking.

That is not a reason to throw the card away. It is a reason to spend thirty seconds dating any list before you spend an afternoon acting on it — scan for a name you know has changed, look for a version number, and notice what is missing. Then take one row, not nine.

Learning a lot does not make anyone good. Doing a lot does.

If you want a deadline rather than a fifty-fifth saved logo, we run a free challenge — there is no barrier to entry, only a commitment fee that is refunded when you finish. It exists because a deadline makes you use one tool, and a grid makes you collect fifty-four.

Which name on that card did you spot as out of date? Tell us in the comments under the original reel.
